Reducing energy costs for community organization to increase funds available for community service programs.

PROJECT: Green Choice Solar has installed a 1.3 Megawatt (MW) PV solar array at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Scottsdale, AZ.

CHALLENGE: The Community Center is home to six different organizations serving the Scottsdale community. The challenge with this project was to implement a sustainable, environmentally friendly energy plan for the organization using its available rooftop and carport space that would save them money on their electricity bills and allow them to dedicate more of their operating budget to programs for the community each year and less to rising energy costs.

SOLUTION: Green Choice Solar installed 5,685 Centrosolar E235 modules, which are built with industryleading power tolerance and utilize polycrystalline high-efficiency silicon cells in an optimal configuration to generate higher power output per module. This photovoltaic module configuration also allows for reduced installation costs, which was an important consideration for the JCC. Approximately 330kW of the system was installed on the Community Center’s roof and the remaining 1 MW installed across 400 solar carport structures throughout the parking lot. The new solar system will reduce JCC’s energy bills by an estimated $6.8 million over the system’s lifetime and provide enough electricity to power 90% of the 150-thousand square foot facility.

PARTNERSHIP NOTE FROM CENTROSOLAR AMERICA: “With Centrosolar America’s headquarters located here in Scottsdale and Green Choice Solar also based here, this project is a great example of how hometown companies can come together to support local organizations and keep jobs in the community,” said Centrosolar America Southwest Sales Senior Manager, Matt Kelly.

About the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus

In the fall of 2002 the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus opened its doors for the first time. Its 150,000 sq. ft. building was and still is a cherished flagship facility for the greater Phoenix Jewish community. Today, in the midst of an economic crisis, many of the agencies that call the ILJCC home are reinventing themselves to better serve their constituents and evaluating ways to be more cost effective and efficient and so is the Campus.
